Yorkshire Guided Fossil Walks

My 2025 Fossil Hunting Experiences are completely private, that means only people you bring on the day are welcome to join. We will head out in search of prehistoric fossils along the Yorkshire Coast. Most walks are very close to Whitby, North Yorkshire, as this is where the best and most productive sites are, but if you do fancy something a little different like dinosaur footprints, plant fossils or glacial erratic’s, we can discuss that after the booking is complete.

Simply choose a date that suits you. Each date has a set time for the walk. Times cannot be changed as they are carefully chosen around the tide times to ensure we get the most out of the walk in a safe and productive manner. Walks last up to 4 hours.  You can request a shorter walk, but the price is the same as I can only do one walk per day.

You can pay a non-refundable £40 deposit to secure the booking, then pay the remaining £155 closer to the date of your walk.

On the day of the walk all you need to bring is yourself, appropriate clothing, footwear, and rucksacks. The beaches can be slippery and often we have to do a fair amount of scrambling, so good walking shoes or wellies are recommended. Waterproofs for any wet conditions are also a good idea as it is an outdoor activity in Yorkshire!  Your rucksacks should have some water and a few light snacks.  You need as much room as possible to carry any potential fossils you want to take home. There is always a chance of wet feet on my walks so make sure you pack some spare socks for the journey home.

Any fossils you find you get to keep.  I will also give you many of the fossils I find, but on the very rare occasion I find something worthy of my collection, I reserve the right to keep it.

My walks are suitable for all ages but please bear in mind that if you decide to bring very young children or elderly then we obviously can’t walk as far, so we will not get to the locations which can be more productive. We always find fossils on my walks!  So, either way it’s going to be a fantastic time.

Start times are the time we should be setting off so please allow plenty of travel time.  The roads in North Yorkshire can often be slow going, especially in wet conditions so please try to arrive early to get parked, changed, and go to the toilet, etc. The end time is the time we will be back at the car park, so please be respectful of that when out collecting. I often have plans after my walks and work to carry on with when I get home.

If you do find anything good, I can take it home with me to prepare as an extra service, and send you the fossil in the post, which is often a truly brilliant token of the wonderful day.

Meeting location will be confirmed 2-3 days before the walk.  I am often scouting out the many different spots to ensure the walks have the best chance of finding many fossils.

My walks are capped to 6 people.  Additional people will be charged £20 per person cash on the day. The only exception to this is for school/education bookings or if you have a larger family, for example: mam, dad, and 5 plus children!  You deserve a bit of slack if you have that many kids’ ha ha.

Hopefully, I have answered all your questions.  If there is something else, you would like to know then just send me a message.
